Decorating.
John was really polite and gave an estimate considerably lower than others, so I agreed job (Emulsion staircase walls and ceilings, emulsion bathroom ceiling, staircase woodwork to be primed and painted, paint 5 doors and wallpaper one wall).John was accommodating when I needed to rearrange the date. He arrived on time at 8.30 and tidied up before leaving at 4.30ish.
John completed all of the work in one day, telling me he would be back the next day to see in good light how it looked. On closer inspection I was devastated.
The work was not completed to a good standard. In fact it was dreadful, with a number of faults that I won't detail, but in my mind were due to too much being done in one day.
Poor workmanship and an absence of care and attention.
I asked family to have a look and showed them photographs, as this was the first time I had paid a tradesman to do this kind of work.
John accepted the faults and actually said the wallpapering looked sh*t. I told him I could not believe he had left thinking this was a good job and that I was not prepared to pay him.
I said that I would have to buy the paper again, so would be out of pocket.
John was very nice about this and said he was able to put it right and was willing to redo the job and reduced the price, given the work that would need to be done.
John accepted that if I did not feel I could ask him to do this, I would not pay him and told me to think about this. I did not ask him to redo the job or put it right, as I could not trust him after this experience and I did not pay him.
I advised John of this via text, asking him to reimburse me for the cost of replacing wallpaper.
He has not responded to my messages and not refunded the cost of wallpaper as agreed. I would not recommend him.
