Lifting up of an existing patio of 48 2 ft x 2ft paving slabs and to be relaid.
We received quote 6th July via text which we accepted same day. 20th July we were given a date of Mon 30th. On 28th we received a text to say it would be Tues or Weds. Heard nothing until 5pm Weds to say they would be here next day at lunch time.
They duly turned up and, before allowing them to start, I was given an assurance that the work would be completed on the Friday or the very latest the Sat morning.
They left at 3pm saying they would return 8am the following morning. Someone turned up at 9.20am and left without comment at 10.15am and did not return that day.
On Saturday I sent a text at 9am to see if anyone would be with us. No reply. I sent another at 10am and received a reply at 10.27 to say he was in hospital with his partner and said he would return following Sat at 8am.
No one arrived again until after 9am and again left after an hour, not saying anything and not returning that day.
Sunday am I received a text to say he would be here sometime in the morning. He turned up and said it was forecast for rain, so not worth starting and off he went yet again.
On the 15th they did turn up. On completion of work they were going to jet wash the patio. He said he was going to pick the pressure hose up from a hire company at 4pm and would clean it on the Fri. Later he said he could not get it but it was arranged for 8.30 on Sat am, so he would be here at 9am. He arrived at 10.
He completed work on patio, but said he could not now get hose till 1pm so when he left at 12.15pm we assumed he was going to get the hose, except he never returned until the Sun morning (and we did not know he was coming that day).
The hose was not to the high standard, so he said they would return at some point and do it again. He then asked for payment in cash. We gave him £100 as we don't carry the full amount of cash in the house and had not expected to pay until work was carried to our satisfaction, but it was not.
He returned the following day for the balance and gave us a hand written receipt. Kevin's colleague (Eric) returned with the washer but was unable to get it through the gate and would return with a smaller one. No response since.
'KC Paving & Landscaping' response:
The start date was delayed due to being on another job, which unfortunately over-ran. I contacted the customer to say that I was on my way. The cleaning of the patio and pathways were not part of the original quoted job, but would do it for free.
The work took longer than expected due both inclement weather and trying to fit around each other's busy schedules. The customer also insisted that we did not come to the house while it was empty or while his wife was in the property by herself.
My colleague managed to clean the pathways and would return with a smaller washer in order to do the patio. Later the same day we were informed he didn't want us back.
