The task was to landscape our back garden, transforming it from a rather untidy, disorganised space (which was fine when the children were growing up) into a more refined, sophisticated space for relaxation and entertainment. Our house is on a steep hill.
Sean visited us when he finished a similar job for our next door neighbour. We'd asked him to come round because we were so impressed with that job, plus the neighbour was highly satisfied with how the work had been done. We discussed what we had in mind; Sean was very quick to understand our requirements and even started to suggest tweaks to our ideas that would improve the outcome. Both my wife and I immediately got the impression that Sean was 'on the same page' as us. That visit took about 15 minutes. The quotation arrived a few days later.
Once we decided to go ahead with the work, a start date was agreed. Sean and his team arrived promptly at 7:30am each morning and worked through to about 2-3pm in the afternoon. Each day, Sean provided a summary of what was expected to be completed that day, so we had a good handle on how the work was progressing.
The team was quite self-sufficient, in the sense that they didn't need much input from us. However, Sean continued to come up with ideas to improve the outcome; these ideas were discussed with us and only actioned with our approval. Where the ideas were likely to result in an additional cost, this was always made clear at the time of discussion. This was one of the aspects of the job that impressed us the most: Sean's input, with his years of experience and expertise, was invaluable in guiding us towards the best possible outcome. The additional (entirely optional) expense was minimal and, we felt, well worth it for the benefit to our garden.
Disruption to our lives was negligible: the team insisted they did not enter the house, even for comfort breaks, preferring instead to use local public facilities. All the team members were polite, professional and very hard working. They demonstrated good attention to detail and a high standard of workmanship.
